Canada – We Stand on Guard for Thee!

The results of the recent Federal election speak for themselves:  the majority of voters were tired of and essentially dissatisfied with former Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his method of governing.  Harper was the quarterback! He emasculated the role of his party’s Members of Parliament and diminished if not eliminated the role of his cabinet with a few exceptions.  The public and private missteps of some of his Senate appointments were a strong statement about his inability to assess whether his appointees possessed good judgment, inner strength, and good character.

This inability resulted in him appointing a number of “party hacks”, “bagmen”, and individuals who lacked the qualities required of any Senate appointee.  The Conservatives were certainly given a clear message of disapproval by  Canadian voters.

The Liberal Party is a major question-mark in my mind. I am concerned about the fact Justin Trudeau has never even been a Cabinet Minister.  What experience does he have to offer or bring to the table?

In my mind, Canadians have elected a pretty face as Prime Minister!  It reminds me of the election of his late father, who also was charismatic, youthful, charming; but in contrast to his son Justin, he was politically experienced, having been a Cabinet Minister, and extremely intelligent.  I have a problem picturing Justin Trudeau holding his own in the company of Mr. Putin, Ms. Merkel, Mr. Brown, Mr. Obama and other world leaders.  I would like to hear what the world leaders’ true opinion of Mr. Trudeau really is, after having interacted with him at the recent G20 summit.

With respect to Mr. Trudeau’s proposed tax increases and other financial and monetary policies, I do not believe they will benefit our country in the long run.

Did Canadians make the right choice by voting the Liberal Party and Justin Trudeau into power?  Stay tuned and we will review the Canadian scene next year.
